Do not know if contact paper is weatherproof but do know that signwriters use a vinyl that has an approximate life span of 5 years before it may need to be replaced. It is of a better quality than contact.
You could always try contact but if it doesn’t work then the other vinyl would be better. Unfortunately it can be expensive to buy as it comes on a roll designed to be used with a vinyl cutter/plotter – but it is available in a huge variety of colours.
If you only want to use it for smallish objects try contacting a signwriter in your area who uses this medium to see if they have any offcuts you can have.
I know my B.I.L. who is a signwriter usually gets lots of offcuts of this vinyl which my grandchildren love to cut into shapes and use in their craftwork/artwork
