Does Anyone Own A Cricut Machine From Provo? I’m Thinking Of Buying One Because I Scrapbook – Any Thoughts?

If you own one – please give your pros and cons on the product and also any additional costs (for cartridges, blades, etc.) If there’s a better product out there – please recommend!

I have the oldest version of the Cricut and love it. The newer version (costs about $350) connects to your computer. There are so many things you can do with the Cricut. There is a website for Cricut—forgot what it is but I imagine just do a search and it will come up.
I love the letters and cut outs you can make. Where I live Michaels, Joannes and AC Moore have sales occasionally on the cartridges so I wait for a sale before buying a cartridge. There are Disney cartridges, different fonts, holidays, etc.
Something came out recently where I think (?) you can connect the older version Cricut to your computer, but not sure on what. Haven’t researched that yet.
I love the convenience of being able to do my own letters in the colors, size and font I want. Great gadget!!

Hi: I used to own my own Scrapbooking Store, and now work in one part time, and I’ve seen and heard alot about many different machines. Of course, I have my personal opinion and at the risk of being the only negative response, I feel it my duty to warn you off of the CRICUT! I had two; the first one being defective (I know, any product will have its share of lemons). Number two worked OK for a while, then steadily began to rip paper of all kinds! I mainly use Bazzill cardstock, and have since heard that this machine generally doesn’t work well with Bazzill. The additional costs of course, are the cartridges, which add up very quickly. I’m not sure how it works now that there is a new, computer version of Cricut…something to definitely investigate (this wasn’t around when I got mine). I now have a PAZZLES and LOVE IT!! I’ve also heard good reviews from Wishblade owners. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably go for the Wishblade, if limited budget, and straight to Pazzles, if money is no object!
Hope this helps & Good luck!

I don’t own one but I go to my friends house weekly to use hers and I LOVE it! I am getting my own after the first of the year when the newer Cricuts are rumored to go down a bit in price. But I haven’t heard any ‘cons’ so far. They are the easiest to use of this type of thing. I used the Epson one (forgot the name) that is similar to Cricut that was at a crop and we (many other scrappers and I) just couldn’t get the hang of it and it would ‘shut down’ a lot.
I was able to master how to use the Cricut in just 15 minutes and have learned more and more each time I go to my friends house.
You can find the cartridges on sale on the web quite a bit. Plus on Ebay there are cartridges there for good prices. Plus ACMoore and Michael’s often have the cartridges for 40% off about once a month. My friend uses very heavy cardstock so she had had to replace her blade twice in this past year, but like I said, we both use it and she uses VERY heavy cardstock from Club Scrap.
Often times ACMoore will have demos of the Cricut and our store will let you schedule an appt with their scrapbook specialist to come in and get tutored on the machine before you decide to buy it.
Hope this helps! Have a great Christmas!
