I am thinking of buying one. I want to make alphabet pop up cards e.g so when you open the card it either eads happy birthday, new baby, congratulations etc. Can I use this machine for this? Is this machine worth the money and what ese can I use it for

The machine will definitely cut out the letters for you, and there are a plethera of different font cartridges for that. It is a pretty cool little toy, but it is definitely an investment. It can cut out thousands of different shapes and letters and words, depending on which cartridges you have, and it can range in sizes from 1″ to 5.5″. It can also do many different effects such as shadowing on your letters or creating little tags, etc.
It’s super easy to use, and you can cut several different types of paper; you just have to adjust the blade depth.
It is worth the money, but only if you are going to really get a lot of use out of it.
You may also look into a Sizzix machine. It can cut several different die from other systems. One thing I like about the Sizzix machine is you can cut lots of different materials. Very heavy cardstock, metal, basal wood. Even Xyron backed cardstock. It is also cheaper. You can use a coupon on at JoAnn’s and Michales.
There is a learning curve with the Cricut. I know of many who love it, but you have to practice with it.

If you would have ask this in January I would have said No – due the fact that you where limited by what they gave you in the cartridges and it was not computer interface able with a design program which you could design your paper cutouts But I learn recently they came out with a Design Studio Program which will do exactly do what I hope it would do, Now May be it can do some paper crafts cutouts like envelopes, Paper flowers, pyramids, custom made paper cut out, lamp shade, candy dishes, 3-d buildings and hopefully you add your computer fonts to it and cut them out, than it has even greater versatility than it had before. If it can do that, than in my option { For what it worth to you} – It will be a execellent machine to have. and a wonderful addition to you. As well as your printer for your computer.

I don’t think there is a cartridge that will do the pop up thing – It’s all about different cartridges for different designs. The cartridges come in alaphabets and objects (flowers, etc.) You can use them for scrapbooking, making cards, etc. I would ask this question on this board:http://www.cricut.com/messageboard/Defau…
